The Brussels box gutter
Many Brussels townhouses have, on the facade, a cornice with a built-in channel (a box gutter): a wide channel, often lined with zinc, that collects the water from the front slope and sends it to a downpipe. You cannot see it from the pavement: the first sign of a problem is often a streak down the facade or a stain under the cornice.
What we do on a box gutter:
- empty the channel of whatever has built up in it (leaves, moss that fell from the roof, soil);
- rinse to check that the water reaches the downpipe;
- clear the inlet of the downpipe and flush it under pressure, with no promise that a blockage will clear.
Access from the street
A box gutter on the facade is often worked on from the street, at upper-floor level. If a cherry picker or scaffolding has to be set up on the public road, the municipality may require prior authorisation.
The right time
Requests for gutter cleaning peak with us in October, when the leaves fall. Wienerberger, a tile manufacturer, advises cleaning gutters at least twice a year, in spring and autumn.

When we come for gutters only, with no minimum, the price is €10 per metre of gutter or box gutter, excl. VAT. If the total for the work stays under €1,000 excl.
