What we did

  1. The roof moss removal. The slates were cleaned. In the before photo, moss and lichen cover the bottom of the slope and the ridge.
  2. The water-repellent treatment. A colourless water repellent was applied to the cleaned roof: it protects the slates without changing their colour.
  3. The gutters. They were cleaned during the same job.
  4. The pavers. Cleaning them was also part of the job.

Worth noting

Moss should only be removed from slates once you know what they are made of. The record for this job states “slates without asbestos”: that is what allowed them to be cleaned. An old artificial slate may contain asbestos, and cleaning a roof that contains it is prohibited; if in doubt, a laboratory analysis settles it before any quote. Before having the moss removed from your slates, read our guide Moss removal on a slate roof.
